About the organisers

We are a group of experienced martial arts enthusiasts who love push hands. Having experienced a range of different competition formats in Europe and China, as well as Australia, we wanted to put together a competition in our home town of Melbourne that fit with what we felt a good Push Hands tournament should be. At the time of writing, we only know of one other competition, in Sydney, which has a rather different format. We wanted to allow a wide range of techniques that make the work more realistic from a fighting perspective, and more accessible to a wider range of martial arts, whilst maintaining the essential elements that make Push Hands the kind of exercise that it is (see the page on Competition Push Hands).

We are a small, amateur organisation, we do it for love. There's a bit of work though, and we would love to have more people help out with the organisation. There are a few active roles in the competition:

  • Referee
  • Lines person
  • Timekeeper
  • Scorekeeper
  • Registration
  • Weigh-in
  • Medical coordination & supervision

Some of these are more specialised than others, but if you'd like to help, please just send us an email (link in page footer)
